First live Canadian television broadcast materials

Photograph, negative and press clippings of the first live television broadcast in Canada, as presented to an audience of over 300 members of the radio industry (including dealers) from the Toronto area. Entitled "This is the Fashion", the show was a collaborative effort between the schools of Electronics, Broadcasting and Fashion Design and was produced in the Ryerson boardroom and transmitted via coaxial cable to viewing screens in the Institute's auditorium. This special event was intended to promote not only television but the FM band (on which Ryerson's new radio station --CJRT-- was just starting to operate).

Ryerson University Status: Miscellanea

File consists of T-shirts (2) gold with blue lettering, the front proclaims, "At Last!" while the back states, "Ryerson Polytechnic University"; graphic material stickers, cards, and pamphlets ; textual records "University Status Update distributions and two memorandum ; oversized memorda (2) university status update by Terry Grier for display.

Installation of Chancellor and Chancellor Emeritus - 2006

File contains 7 invitations. Three are for the installation for G. Raymond Chang as Chancellor of Ryerson University at the convocation held November 2, 2006 at 9:30am; one for the reception held in honour of G. Raymond Chang held at 6pm on November 2, 2006; and three are for a luncheon in honour of the conferring of the title "Chancellor Emeritus" on the Honourable David Crombie, O. C. held on November 2, 2006 at 12:30pm. File also contains greetings from The Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities Chris Bentley on the Installation of G. Raymond Chang as Chancellor, and a guest book from the reception.

Ryerson Campaign materials

File contains Ryerson Campaign materials including invitations, brochures, booklets, correspondence, architectural drawings, an itinerary, a mug, and a sweatshirt. The mug was presented to telephone canvassers after they raised $10 000 and the sweatshirt, after $25 000.

File contains posters from various School of Fashion fashion shows, predominantly from Mass Exodus, the annual year-end graduating class fashion show and exhibit.

Unveiling of plaque at William Thomas gravesite

Photographs, invitation, newsletter report, videotape relating to the unveiling of a special bronze plaque next to the gravestone of William Thomas in St. James Cemetery in Toronto, and the subsequent reception at Oakham House. The plaque contains the transcribed text from the gravestone, which had become illegible over time but was available through cemetery records. The gravestone itself was partially restored. Funds for both the plaque and the restoration were provided by various heritage groups under the coordination of Mr. Stephen Otto. After the unveiling ceremony, the attendees (numbering about 25 and including relatives of William Thomas) were invited to Oakham House for refreshments, including a birthday cake in honor of the anniversary of Thomas' 200th birthday.

Palin Hall official dedication materials

File contains a register for the dedication ceremony of Eric Palin Hall, held on October 15th 1971 (building is as of 2013 called Oakam House). File also contains an invitation and guest list to the official dedication to re-name the Technology Annex to Eric Palin Hall held on Feb 9th 1979.

Jorgenson Hall sod turning ceremony materials

File contains arrangement documentation, photographs, a photocopy of the original guest register, the original guest register etc. regarding the sod turning ceremony prior to the construction of Jorgenson Hall, the first phase in the planned expansion for the Ryerson campus.

Alumni Expo (Graduate Fair)

The first Graduate Fair was held in the upper floor of the Hub cafeteria on March 4, 2009 for graduands going to graduate in 2009. The purpose was to enhance services to new graduates and improvement relations between the university and grads. The first fair was entitled, "Grads of '09 What are you doing after school?". In 2011 the name was changed to Alumni Expo.

Installation of President Claude Lajeunesse

File contains installation invitations, programs, program/calendar of events, curriculum vitae, press kit, RSVP list, name badges, cassette recordings (Installation of Pres. Lajeunesse CA 12-9 and "New Initiatives Forum", CA 12-11/12, received through various sources.

Special Events

Two files containing information on various fundraising activities sponsered by Circl K including casinos, swimathons, car rallies, and blood donor clinics. Also included is material relating to District conventions.

Interaction '79

File contains correspondence, a folder kit with brochures and pamphlets about various student services.

SightSoundSystems "Reunion"

Contents include a flyer and an article on the "Reunion" event celebrating 35 years since the electronic sight and sound chess game of 1968 between two artists Marcel Duchamp and John Cage.

Golf Tournament miscellanea

The "Arts" Division annual golf tourney was initiated in 1981 and developed into an University-wide tournament in 1988. The materials consist of notices, photographs, a sampling of score cards, statistics (player scores, prize categories), sampling of a tournament contract and a trophy - given to the archives by former Dean of Arts, Terry Grier.

President's celebration notices

File contains invitations extended to the Ryerson community or to faculty and staff to celebrate a noteworthy event. This primarily includes the Annual Holiday Celebration for the whole community.

Ryerson University Week

A collection of posters, clippings, and a community notice documenting the many events during "Ryerson Week" October 11-15 1993, to celebrate Ryerson's university status, a joint venture of Ryesac (RSU), Community Relations and the President's Office. Also in the collection are seven O/S reproductions of articles re. Ryerson's University Status, mounted on foamcore display panels (72cm x 60cm). These panels were part of a display in the Olive Baker Lounge during "Ryerson Week", arranged by Student Services with assistance from the Archives.

4th Year Student Film Festivals

Sub-Series contains promotional materials for the 4th year shows in film. From 2003 on it has been known as RUFF (Ryerson University Film Festival).

Photographic Arts Centre official opening materials

A binder documenting the preparation for the official opening of the Photographic Arts Centre. Although the enclosed index lists items to be contained in the binder, not everything was included.The material has been removed from the binder, but kept in the original plastic sleeves.

RU Ryerson student video contest

RU Ryerson inaugural video contest occured in 2009. The idea behind the contest was initiated by President Sheldon Levy after he saw a similar contest at Waterloo University. The contest was student run with support from the President's office - donating the prize money for the top three videos.

This file consists of textual records and DVD from the 2009 and 2010 iteration of the RU Ryerson contest.

Beyond Style: Invitation/Notice

File contains materials related to Beyond Style, a benefit exhibition and fashion show, which included a private viewing of "Diana, A Celebration."

Ryerson 50th Anniversary

This is a working file, which was maintained by the Archivist, on the Archives' involvement in Ryerson's 50th Anniversary celebrations and events in 1998. It includes, among other things, information and documentation on the Ryerson History project, the Board of Governors Reception held in the Archives, the Open House/Homecoming Day in October and the "50th Memories" photographic feature which appeared in FORUM.
