Administrative history

James Rice operated the Rice Studio in Montreal, Quebec from approximately 1901-1948. He was known for his photographs of the Stanley Cup and his portraits of the hockey players of the Montreal Canadiens. His grandfather Moses P. Rice founded the studio in Washington D.C. in 1865.

Item consists of a photograph mounted on cream card with decoratively frayed edges. Handwritten note at bottom right of image on card in black ink, "To my friend 'Alf' Martin/ P Lauren(?) Druehl" Photograph shows a man in dark suit with pinstriped shirt. Underneath the text, embossed in the card, "RICE/ MONTREAL". On verso, handwritten in pencil, "65769".

Physical condition

Good. Card is yellowing, there is a small yellow fade spot at top left on image. Glue stains and card adhered to the right on verso.
