Series consists of sets of lantern slides, often of historical monuments or landscapes. One set of painted slides appears to recount a story, with images of people outdoors on a farm, in a carriage, dancing and fighting. Another set of non-photographic painted slides depicts children working and playing. The slides in this series were mass produced for the commercial market.

McAllister, Manufacturing Optician, 49 Nassau Street, N.Y." - slide is dated at c. 1880s because that is when McAllister started selling lantern slides. Wood frame has a sticker on it with the letter Y written inside.

Please note that the wood frame is a thicker cut than the others, and not a straight cut.

The Rhine river once splashed up against the town's walls, but a landfill has been added to accommodate a road, train tracks and boat docks. In the image you can see the river, the spire of a church and rooftopes.

This series part of Life Model Slides. "The most popular slides in Victorian times were 'life model slides', which depicted popular sentimental stories of the day.The slides were produced by arranging actors in costume in front of a painted back drop. Stage props were placed in front of the actors and the scenes from the story were photographed. The slides were often hand tinted with colour and sold in boxes, along with a text to be used as a reading.In particular the temperance movement and political speakers used slides to convert a mass audience." In the BRC there's the numbers 99-218 printed on slide itself. More research shows that Joseph Hawkes worked in New York City and Brooklyn in the late 19th century, and he hand coloured slides. This is how date was decided. There's a red and white sticker on the glass with a number 2 written inside. The image is of a mummified head, with neck. Nothing else.
4x5 film pack adapter for Premo camera. Metal and wood pack adapter. Inscription on side of wood "For Premo cameras." Premo cameras were manufactured by Rochester Optical and Camera company, which was bought out by Eastman Kodak in 1903. Date based on inscription: "Manufactured by Eastman Kodak Co. successor to Rochester Optical Co. Rochester, N.Y., U.S.A. Canada 25-03 British Pat. Apr. 21-03 France Pat. Apr. 18-03 German C.R.P. June 7 - 1905 U.S.A. Pat. May 19-03." (Eastman Kodak changed the name of the Rochester Optical Company to the Rochester Optical Division in 1907). Inscription on outside of metal back, "Premo film pack adapter."
Series consists of gelatin silver prints, albumen prints, acetate negatives, and various colour photographic processes produced by amateur photographers, usually in an informal, outdoor setting.
Cyanotype image of a man feeding three chickens. Man wears a suit and hat. Inscription handwritten in pencil on verso "Breakfast time." Paper is very thin.
These photographs share few similarities in image content besides all being taken out-of-doors. Four images show a barn raising, and sixteen images are of boats, including the "Stoney Lake" and the "Modello." One photograph is of a man in a wheatfield--written on verso is "What do you think of this for Western Wheat 10 mi.'s from Regina?" The other photograph written on verso is of a man and an airplane--"Douglas Lindsay out on the Sask. River Jan. 15 / 36 at Prince Albert where the fish bask from Leechee (sp?) Rouge is situated."
File consists of 33 black and white prints of various attractions in London including Ludgate Hill and St. Paul's Cathedral, Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, British Museum, Trafalgar Square,, Warwick Castle, etc.
