Wales album

Green cover album - binding coming loose, very brittle. Beige pages with gold trim. Handwritten notations in black ink (poem written on pages dated July 1886 (excerpt from Arthur Hugh Clough's "O Stream Descending") and plant specimen dated June 30th 1886 from Cornwall). Photographs are glued in; some images appear to be ink drawings. One handpainted image onto a page, covered by protective tissue paper.

Locations and sites include: Rhyl Pier, Conway Castle, Llandudno Bay, Carnarvon Castle, Beaumaris Castle, The Menai Straits; all Wales. Clifton Downs and Clifton Suspension Bridge, Cornwall, Falmouth and Flushing, in England.

Themes include: landscapes and scenic vistas, rural farm life, castles, group and family portraits, places throughout England and Wales.

Portrait of a young man

Item is a cream coloured card with vignetted portrait of a young man with a plaid tie. At bottom edge, in blue letterpress, "Williams & Williams PHOTOGRAPHERS." On verso, elaborate lithographed design with woman standing on a globe holding an upside down cornucopia out of which spill circular portraits. The photographer's stamp gives 7 locations in the UK. "Williams & Williams" "67, THE TRIANGLE, BRISTOL/ 53, QUEEN STREET, CARDIFF/ ARCADE STUDIO NEWPORT/ 208a HIGH STREET, SWANSEA/ 90 TAFF ST, PONTYPRIDD/ 56 ELGIN STREET, HEREFORD/ 48 HIGH STREET, SHREWSBURY." At the bottom left, printed "No." and handwritten in pencil beside that, "33023". Text follows, "NEGATIVES ARE/ PRESERVED COPIES/ OR ENGLARGEMENTS CAN/ BE MADE FROM THIS OR ANY/ OTHER PHOTOGRAPH." Also written in pencil at the very bottom, "Dudjer(?)".
