Custodial history

This mantelpiece and a stained glass window were taken from No. 329 Church St. when it was demolished in 1975 for future Ryerson bldgs. The house was occupied by Student Services in June 1970 and vacated in July 1971. In EXPLORATIONS #5, June 1955, J. Tyrrwhit and C. Williams in an article regarding a survey done at Ryerson, cite this from TORONTO OLD & NEW, 1906 and rephrase as follows: “The house was then new (1906) and had been built for a somewhat eccentric, but wealthy doctor. The front elevation is of excellent workmanship in a sort of basket pattern, and the pseudo-romanesque stone window arches are intricately carved by a master craftsman. The inside unfortunately has been gutted by the present owners, a firm of bookbinders”. They also call it “the architectural gem of the area....”.

Scope and content

Stained glass window in green painted window frame. Glass largely yellow with purple and blue shape in centre and red and other coloured round spots overall.
