History

Charles Egerton Ryerson (1847-1909) was the only son of Egerton Ryerson, born to his second wife. He was an attorney and became the Assistant Librarian and Secretary of the City of Toronto Public Library, as recorded in the Library's Annual reports from 1898-1908. He served under Chief Librarian James Bain until Bain's death in May 1908. From April to December 1908 he was acting chief librarian until George H. Locke assumed the duties of chiefl librarian. By the end of his service to the Library, C. Egerton Ryerson, MA was both Assistant Librarian and Secretary-Treasurer.
