G. C. Arless was a Montreal-based photographer who operated his own studio during the late nineteenth century.
Scope and content
Item is a cream coloured cabinet card with gold letterpress at bottom edge, "Cabinet Portrait/ G. C. ARLESS PHOTO. MONTREAL". The text is separated in the centre with the drawing of a maple leaf. Photograph is a full length portrait of a woman with embroidered jacket standing admist cattail reeds. On verso, lithographed celtic interlace border design with the design of a crest with a maple leaf in the centre, and the letters "G" "C"and "A"intertwined. Below, "G. C. ARLESS/ Photographer/ MONTREAL/ Wm Galt. Lith." Handwritten in black ink at top, "Aug 1889".
Fair. The photograph is foxing badly and yellowed. The card is quite dirty.
