Biographical history

Melanie Panitch joined the School of Disability Studies at Ryerson University as an associate professor in 2000 and was the school's founding director from 2000 to 2012. Panitch earned her Master of Social Work from Carleton University and her Doctor of Social Work from The City University of New York. She has acted as the Interim Director of the School of Child and Youth Care and as the Lead for Innovation and Strategic Outreach in the Faculty of Community Services. Her research focuses on children, disability policy, and social inclusion.
