Notice biographique
Ken and Joyce Hack (nee Shepherd) were Ryerson students in the early 1950s who met at what was then Ryerson Institute of Technology and later married. Ken graduated from Retail Merchandising (1953) while Joyce from the School of Fashion (1953).
Historique de la conservation
The Archives received this collection of distinctive materials relating to the Hacks' days as students in the early 1950s through their daughter-in-law who worked in the Office of the Registrar. Because of the uniqueness of many of the items in this accession, the Archives considers this to be one of the most significant acquisitions of 1950s Toronto Metropolitan University memorabilia.
Portée et contenu
The Fonds consists of memorabilia accumulated during Ken and Joyce Hacks' Ryerson school days between 1951 and 1953. These include :
- Ribbons - typically worn by Frosh at Orientation and athletic events
- Shot glasses given to graduates as mementos by the student union
- Crests and decals
- Programmes from the Ryerson Drama Club
- Original photographs of TMU's fashion models
- Feature articles on the School of Fashion which appeared in McCall's Magazine and Canadian Home Journal around 1954
- A rare educational aid kit used in Business Management classrooms in the 1950s entitled, "Record Keeping for Small Business: Hanson's Store Practice Set".
