Portrait of four women

Item is a photograph of four young women mounted on a postcard backing. The image is a full-length portrait, wiht three women in white blouses and dark, plain wrap-style skirts (the one at the far right has buttons decorating the seam) and the youngest in a sailor style dress. On verso, in black ink, "POST CARD/ BRITISH MADE" and a line dividing two sections for "Correspondence" and "Address". At the far left, printed sideways, "Kestin Photographer Skipton".

Managed by William Hebb until 1876, when Oliver M. Hill took over the position.grey card which fades from light to dark from left to right, with round portrait of a woman with a ruffle-collared dress. At bottom right, embossed in white on a diagonal, "F. W. Wood Ltd. 347 & 349 EDGEWARE RD. ,W./ 8, 22 BISHOPS RD., W." On verso, handwritten in pencil, "112330".

She wears a small bonnet on the back of her head. Photograph taken in studio setting with drapery and small side table. She rests her hand on a book on the table. On verso, photographer's stamp with the letters "R" and two "h"s intertwined followed by the text "HUGH H. RITCHIE/ PHOTOGRAPHER/ 146 PRINCES STREET/ OPPOSITE THE LOTHIAN ROAD/ EDINBURGH".

Photograph is a portrait of an old woman in a white bonnet with long side panels seated by a table with a vase of flowers. She wears a fitted blouse buttoned up the front and a wool skirt. On verso, also in gold and printed sideways on the card, "F. C. D. Hure/ Artist,/ Portrait & Landscape Photographer./ 10, COWL STREET, SHEPTON MALLET." At top left "COPIES MAY BE/ HAD AT A REDUCED/ PRICE." And at top right, "BY SENDING/ NAME, DESCRIPTION,/ AND DATE WHEN/ TAKEN." Handwritten in pencil at the top of the card, "L-5.00"

Item is a beige cabinet card with brown letterpress at bottom, "W. Crooke/ 103 PRINCES STREET/ EDINBURGH." Photograph is of a mother and two daughters. The woman sits on the left, wears a tight jacket with lace sleeves and a narrow bonnet with crushed fabric decoration at brim and large silk bow tied under her neck. The older girl on the right wears a dark fabric, probably velvet, dress with lace collar and lace trimming on short sleeves. The infant on the mother's lap wears a lace dress and bonnet. Only the infant looks toward the camera.

Item is a cream card with silver letterpress at bottom edge, "Regent Portraits Ltd., London & Provinces." Photograph is a portrait of a young woman in plain white blouse with her short hair curled forward on either side of her face, and a section pulled up and rolled back on top - a very popular style for the 40s. On verso, "Further copies may always be obtained/ from our local Studio by quoting index/ letter and Negative Number." Handwritten in pencil, "PA61.99.8" and again in letterpress, "OR FROM/ REGENT PORTRAITS Ltd.,/ 30/31 GREAT SUTTON ST.,/ LONDON, E.C. 1."
