Public Health Inspection Department Bachelor of Applied Arts (Environmental Health) proposed program presentation

File contains a photocopy working copy of the May 1975 program presentation for a Bachelor of Applied Arts for the Public Health Inspection Department. There are original documents for the "Existing Personnel and Projected Requirements" section, Appendix C "Advisory Council", Appendix D "Correspondence", and Appendix E "Minutes of Meetings Advisory Council, Departmental Council" in the file, along with a working copy of the document and a letter regarding the proposal.

Major Alex O'Hara

Major Alex S. O'Hara had an extensize background in public health and sanitary inspection when in 1952 he organized and became the first director of the Ontario Sanitary Inspectors' Training course that was initially run through Ryerson and in 1963 would be taken over by Ryerson from under the Department of Public Health.

The file contains a transcript of President Donald Mordell's speech about Alex O'Hara at the June 2, 1978 convocation ceremony. Alex O'Hara presented the graduates with their certificates at that ceremony. Also in the file is a mini-biography of Alex O'Hara and a memo from Public Health Inspection Chairman Ron de Burger to Jim Peters.

10th annual In-Service Training Course for Public Health Inspectors course "B" papers

The 10th annual In-Service Training Course for Public Health Inspectors Course "B" - Interpersonal Relations and Administrative Factors in Public Health Inspection Program was held at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute May 20-22, 1970. The course was sponsored by The Ontario Branch - Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors in co-operation with the Local Health Services Branch - Ontario Department of Health.
The file contains 2 copies of the papers presented during the course. Included are several papers by Ryerson Faculty members:

Program equipment

File contains records related to laboratories, laboratory equipment, and other equipment for the Public Health Inspection, and Environmental Health Officers laboratories.
Included in the file are January and February 1975 Public Health Inspection Department laboratory equipment inventories; a December 1976 listing of Environmental health officers equipment; and a copy of a financial assistance application to the Ministry of Colleges and Universities capital support program for a Public Health Inspection and Environmental Health Laboratory.

Included are photographs of Ron De Burger, Chairman of the Public Health Inspection department; Public Health Open House photograph; and Thomas W. File contains two items from the Fall 1984 volume of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspection Ontario Branch News. The first item is the annual report for the "Advisory Committee to the Environmental Health Department Ryerson Polytechnical Institute" written by Pamela Cook. The second item is a "Review of the Degree Program in Environmental Health" at Ryerson.

Public Health Inspectors' two year programme

The Public Health Inspector course changed from 1 year to 2 years in 1967, with the first of the stream being admitted in September of 1967. In the file is a memo regarding calendar information for the new 2 year course. Accompanying the memo is the material in question which includes a class break down by semester and accompanying class descriptions.

Public Health Inspection Department academic planning overview

FIle contains one copy of the "Public Health Inspection Department Academic Planning Overview" report. Included in the report are aims and objectives; academic analysis of the certificate in public health inspection; academic comparison; a comparison of Ryerson's and the British Columbia Institute of Technology's programs; academic comparison of the proposed degree in Environmental Health; and other analysis of the existing department and its future needs.

School of Environmental Health changes to school name, admission requirements, and curricula for 1999-2000

File contains a multifaceted proposal put forward by the School of Environmental Health. Included is a proposal to change the name of the School to School of Occupational and Public Health, and change the name of the Public Health option to Public Health and Safety option. Also included are proposed admission requirement alterations, and curricular changes.

Public Health Alumni Association

File contains materials related to the Public Health Alumni Association. Included in the file is a letter letting alumni know that the alumni association is going to be reactivated; and a copy and original mock-up of the July 1979 Alumni newsletter.

Graduate and class lists

In 1953 the Department of Health for Ontario organized the Ontario Sanitary Inspectors' Training course that was based out of Ryerson Institute of Technology. The course was one year in length and Ryerson instructors provided the majority of the course content for the program. Students were selected by the Department of Health. In 1963 the course changed to The Public Health Inspectors Course and was completely governed by Ryerson.
The file includes photocopies of class lists for the Ontario Sanitary Inspectors' Training Courses between 1953-1963; the Public Health Inspectors program 1964-1981; and Environmental Health Administration certificate 1969-1974.

File contains promotional materials including brochures, pamphlets, and a poster for the programs within the School of Occupational and Public Health and its antecedent incarnations.
Included are brochures for the Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety through Ryerson's Continuing Education Division, Public Health, Occupational Health and Safety, and Public Health and Safety.

File contains 5 pages of statistics pertaining to numbers of graduates from Medical Laboratory Technology, Public Health Inspectors certificate, Environmental Health Administration advanced certificate, and the Environmental Health degree.

Public Health Inspectors' co-operative semester

File contains a motion for the Academic Council (Senate) that the Public Health Inspectors' co-operative semester be approved. Included is a letter to the Academic Council from Dr. Donald Barr, and 2 copies (one copy and one original) of the guide to the field training for public health inspectors.
