Peter Ryerson Acquisitions documentation

This file contains documentation relating to the acquisition, by the Ryerson Archives, of the Ryerson Family Documents (RG 679.01) and the Egerton and Mary Ryerson Portraits (RG 679.02). It includes correspondence; arrangements for the transportation of the Documents and Portraits; financial support for restoration and shipping costs; dealings with Patricia Garner, the British conservator, and with the Canadian Conservation Institute with regard to the restoration of the Portraits; the 1999 reception honouring Peter Ryerson and his wife, Janet; publicity and public relations involving the acquisitions; and internal communications within Ryerson University.

Ryerson Family papers

This is a collection of documents and correspondence pertaining to four generations of the Ryerson Family and assembled and organized, scrapbook-style, in a leather-bound volume measuring 37 x 28.5 centimetres. Approximately 130 of the volume's 173 pages are filled.SCrapbook is divided into several sections:
The first section is entitled "Documents Relating to the Ryerson Family" and consists of several reproduced documents relating to Joseph Ryerson.
The second section is entitled, "Col. Jos. Ryerson Papers".
The third section is entitled, "Rev. Egerton Ryerson, D.D. Papers". It contains the largest number of items in the volume.
The fourth section is entitled, "Charles Egerton Ryerson". Charles Ryerson (1847-1909) was Egerton Ryerson's son.
The fifth section is entitled, "George Egerton Ryerson".

Display card and photographs of donors

The card and two photographic images accompanied the Ryerson Family Papers display within the Archives between 1998 and 2013. Althought strickly not archival, they demonstrate the digital technology of 1998.

The display card describes the wonders of technology to communicate and send digital photographs between the donor in England and the Ryerson archivist in Toronto.
