Black cover and pages.Album manufactured in New York by F.L. Schafuss & Co. Photographs glued in. Handwritten notations in black ink. Includes panoramic photographs and one navigational chart for sailing. Some loose photographs.

Photographs are travel snapshots from a cruise aboard the S.S. Vigilancia, a steamship that traveled from New York to Vera Cruz, Mexico. There are photographs of the popular sites and activities in Cuba, Bahamas and Mexico, including bullfighting, shoe shining, street scenes, cattle ranches, restaurants, mahogany, rubber, cocoa and banana trees, canoeing, vendors, Pico de Orizaba, markets. cathedrals, monuments, etc.
Other notable photographs are of the interior of The Grand Hotel, Wreck of the USS Maine at Havana, Monument to Cubans executed by the Spanish at Fort Cabana, ox-carts, and horse-drawn trams. Consists of a large album with black and white photographs of a military base in Hawaii. Includes individuals and group shots of men in military uniforms, images of the landscape and military equipment and buildings, women on a beach and a partially nude woman posing for the camera.

Sketch of interior of Cornelius Vanderbilt House

Item is a sketch of the interior of a room with furnishings, made with ink on glassine paper. Inscriptions read: "Geo. S & Polley & W. Pub. Boston" "Interior Cornelius Vanderbilts Residence". The mansion was located on 1 West 57th Street in New York City and was built in 1883. Cornelius Vaderbilt II was an heir, socialite and businessman. The house was sold at the beginning of the First World War for seven million dollars.

She wears a white blouse, checkered skirt and thick black leather watch. There is a piece of a mantel with flowers and leaves on the painted backdrop. On verso, the words "POST CARD" are printed sideways with a dividing line for address and correspondence. A small design at upper right indicates where to place postage.

The photo is mounted on a postcard backing with the text "POST CARD" and a line delineating space for correspondence and address. At the upper right, a diamond design with the word "DEFENDER" printed twice designates the space for the stamp. At the very bottom, "Printed in U.S.A."

Item is a cream card with photograph of a well dressed black man. On verso, a long text in black letterpress followed by a purple stamp at the bottom reading "C.A. Stacey, Artist./ Over 56 Main Street,/ Medina, New York." The text is a brief biography of Richard Gordineer, a slave born to a Mohawk Dutchman and a black woman, who was freed in 1825 along with all the slaves in New York state. He was an excellent baker, and was regularly employed as a whitewasher until he lost all his savings in 1862. Gordineer died on December 11, 1884.

He has curls down to his shoulders in the Fauntleroy fashion. He leans against a diamond-patterened fence made of tree branches and there is the trunk of a tree to the left of the image. Fence is in front of an interior wall, implying a studio setting. At bottom of card in black letterpress, "P. BOGRAND, Wausakee, Wis." On verso, handwritten in pencil, "5-".

American actress, burlesque performer. She is recorded as having performed in "Our Cinderella: A Burlesque" by William Gill in the Colville Company's 1878-9 season, and in "The Magic Slipper" for Haverley's Theater in New York in August 1879, produced by Samuel Colville's Opera Burlesque Company.

Lillian Russell, 1861-1922

Lillian Russell, born Nellie Leonard in Clinton, Iowa in 1861, was a famous comic opera actress in New York city. She made her stage debut in "Time Tries All" in Chicago in 1877 before moving to New York in 1879 and continuing her career in musicals, burlesque and dramatic shows. Near the end of her life, she was appointed as a special investigator to study immigration conditions by President Harding. She presented a report to the United States Department of Labor that suggested an "immigration holiday" of 5 years, the sifting of immigrants on the other side, and 21 years residence in the US before naturalization. Item is in a cream coloured card-frame embossed opening, with embossed letters "Potter's Patent March 7 1865." Which is how we dated the tintype. Photograph is a studio portrait of two women, both seated, arms resting on the one armrest with fringes. Woman on right is dressed all in black, with black hat and veil - perhaps mourning wear. The woman on the left is in full skirt with black trim and black top, white collar and black hat. Both have pink tinted cheeks.

Item has a cream card-frame embossed opening, with embossed letters "Potter's Patent March 7 1865." Which is how we dated the tintype. Photograph is a studio portrait of two women, both standing, side by side. Both women wear hats. One on left wears a dark shirtwaist, with a striped full skirt with hair tied neatly back and little bow at the neck. Woman on right has a dark dress, buttons down the front with a small white collar, in fashion in the 1860s. Her hair is shoulder lenght ringlets, also in fashion in the 1860s. Both have pink tinted cheeks.
