The Fonds consists of memorabilia accumulated during Ken and Joyce Hacks' Ryerson school days between 1951 and 1953. These include :

  • Ribbons - typically worn by Frosh at Orientation and athletic events
  • Shot glasses given to graduates as mementos by the student union
  • Crests and decals
  • Programmes from the Ryerson Drama Club
  • Original photographs of TMU's fashion models
  • Feature articles on the School of Fashion which appeared in McCall's Magazine and Canadian Home Journal around 1954
  • A rare educational aid kit used in Business Management classrooms in the 1950s entitled, "Record Keeping for Small Business: Hanson's Store Practice Set".

Record keeping for small businesses course material

File consists of The Course of Study in Record-Keeping and an envelope containing the complete 'Record Keeping Hanson Store Set' as part of the 'Business Procedure' course offered in the Fashion Program. The contents include: Instructions & Narrative; One-Book System of Accounts; Check Book; Simplified Pay-Roll Record. Also includes student notes.

Brigadoon programme

File consists of the programme from the 1953 ROW production, 'Brigadoon', signed by cast members.

Miscellaneous Ryerson decals

File consists of a sheet of four blue and gold Ryerson decals: 2 Ryerson crests, 1 Ryerson pennant with crest and RIT, 1 crest above a Ryerson name banner.

R.I.T. Frosh beanie

This beanie would have been worn by either Ken or Joyce Hack (nee Shepherd) as a first year student during Initiation when Frosh were required to perform acts, such as shine shoes or sing at the command of other students and often in costume.

A preview of an exclusive fashion feature : [brochure]

Item is a brochure, distributed to stores and schools throughout Canada, of a preview of an exclusive fashion feature for the August issue of 'Canadian Home Journal'. The feature fashions were made and modelled by fashion students of Ryerson Institute of Technology for the fashion showing at the Home Economics convention in Toronto in August.

Ryerson ribbons and Frosh button

White and blue metal button with opening for student's name "Fashion Joyce Shepherd". A blue, a gold, and a white ribbon are knotted and attached to back of pin. It is a frosh button.

Rally tag and ribbons

A cardboard tag with “Beat The Aggies” (Ontario Agricultural College Aggies) attached to Ryerson ribbons (blue, gold and white).
