Japanese accordion album

Item is an accordion album with 50 handcoloured albumen photographs. An embossed red and gold cardboard sleeve protects the cover. Red and white woven fabric cover. White accordion folded pages. Photographs mounted with glue. Tissue interleaving.

Photographs are hand-coloured and largely depict women and girls in various activities and settings, some men - possibly monks, scenic landscapes and sites of interest, agriculture and crop farming, buddha statues.

Lantern slide, glass slide. Handpainted over B&W slide. No wood frame. Black frame with gold letters "Edward Van Altena 71-79W. 45th St., N.Y.C." Slide is numbered 46 in the series. Black paper around glass edges. Heavily painted. Image is of the halloween dance from earlier slides, but a fight has broken out among the dancers.

Emperor William I

Note that the date is a guess determined by the reigne of Emperor William I. Lantern slide, wood frame with glass B&W slide - oval shape image. Looks to be a half tone from an engraving. Inscription in gold letters on the purple frame around the image "From J.G. Langguth, Manufacturer of Magic Lanterns and slides, Chicago, Ills." and a sticker in ink "Emperor William Germany." Sticker with the letter Y on wood frame.

Item is a photograph album with an ornate cover and metal clasps. Gold trimmed pages with openings to insert the CDVs. Spine in very poor condition; some torn pages; one loose photograph. Contains 26 gelatin silver and albumen photographs.

Many pages are empty. One loose photograph. Photographs consist of portraits; some with animals such as dogs or horses.

Photo studios include McMillan, Ontario and J Nicol Photographer, Nairn.

McAllister, Manufacturing Optician, 49 Nassau Street, N.Y." - slide is dated at c. 1880s because that is when McAllister started selling lantern slides. Wood frame has a sticker on it with the letter Y written inside.

Research lead to the Capitoline Museums on Capitol Hill in Rome, Italy, but unsure if Capitol Museum is the same as Capitoline Museum.
