Frogpond

"The journal Frogpond is an official serial publication of the Haiku Society of America. Its primary function is to publish the best in contemporary English-language haiku and senryu, linked forms including sequences, renku, rengay, and haibun, essays and articles on these forms, and book reviews." -- Journal about page. The first publication of the journal was in 1978.

George Swede with Anita Krumins were the first Canadian editors of Frogpond. Although Ms. Krumins was officially an Assistant Editor, in every capacity she was the Associate Editor. Their first issue was Volume 31 : 2 in 2008, ending with Volume 35 : 1, 2012.

Graduation pins and rings, and year pins

File contains the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing year pins and graduation pins. The year pins were given to students at the start of their 3rd year and the graduation pins were handed out at graduation. Unlike other hospital nursing schools, the Wellesley pin stayed the same from 1915-1974. The graduating class of 1975 received a different pin because of the amalgamation for the school of nursing into Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. The Lion rampant used for both pins is from the Wellesley Hospital crest which Dr. Herbert Bruce received permission from the Duke of Wellington (Wellesley) to use the family's crest as the Hospital's crest.

Class of 1975 graduation pin

Graduation pin given by Ryerson Polytechnical Institute to the last graduating class of The Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing in 1975.
The large round gold pin features the Ryerson Polytechnical Institute coat of arms and motto "Mente et Artificio" on front and graduates name and graduation date engraved on the back. Left side of pin has small chain attached to a small gold "lion rampant" - Wellesley Hospital crest - pin.

1846 Letter : To W. Thomas from Niagara Board of Police

This is a letter to William Thomas from the Clerk of the Board of Police, Niagara, concerning the installation of the roof over the Market House and Town Hall. Thomas designed the Town Hall, Court House, and Market buildings (1846-1847). This document was retrieved from the Oakham House documentation file.

This document appears to be an invoice and is dated August 2, 1849. It is from David Smith, "Silk and Woollen Dyer, Scourer, Hot Presser & C." to Martha Thomas, wife of the noted architect who designed Oakham House. This document was retrieved from the Oakham House documentation file.

Portrait: Charles Egerton Ryerson

Portrait of Charles Egerton Ryerson (1847-1909), Egerton Ryerson's only surviving son and only son with Mary. Charles was an attorney who became the Assistant Librarian and Secretary of the City of Toronto Library.

Notices: Safety watch, security watch, and crime prevention bulletins

File contains safety watches, security watches and crime prevention bulletins generated by TMU's Security Office. Previously they mailed via interoffice mail or emailed to key people in a department to be distributed by them. As of 2013 they are emailed directly to everyone with a valid TMU email address. Included in the file are some notices sent via TMU's Security from Toronto Police Services.

As of 2018 Security began posting the notices to their website only - no longer emailing or generating paper copies. They can be viewed at this web address: https://www.torontomu.ca/community-safety-security/security-incidents/list-of-security-incidents/

The Fonds consists of memorabilia accumulated during Ken and Joyce Hacks' Ryerson school days between 1951 and 1953. These include :

  • Programmes from the Ryerson Drama Club

R.I.T. Frosh beanie

This beanie would have been worn by either Ken or Joyce Hack (nee Shepherd) as a first year student during Initiation when Frosh were required to perform acts, such as shine shoes or sing at the command of other students and often in costume.

Series contains various foam cores that were generated and used in displays featuring Ryerson archival material. Series also contains plaques of enlargements of The Ryersonian newspaper.

The Journal of Education for Upper Canada

The bound copy of "The Journal of Education for Upper Canada", Vol. I, Issues 1 to 12, for the year 1848, was edited by Egerton Ryerson with help from J. George Hodgins. Ryerson wrote a number of articles including the Prospectus in Vol. I, Issue 1. Included is a subject index at the beginning of the volume.

Team/game/event/facility/staff photographs

Box of photographs and other Athletics and Recreation materials were given to the Archives in 2012. The photographs, in negative, print, and slide format, include games, teams, staff, facilities and awards nights. There are no dates on the majority of the the photos, but judging by the type of photographs and the uniforms - they were taken between 1990 and 2010.

Ryerson Theatre Company

In the 1970s and 1980s the Ryerson Theatre Company was made up of final year students from the acting, dancing and technical programs - representing their transition year from the student to a professional. They were responsible for all aspects of the show including promotion, production, and performance. It is unclear why there was a revival of the name periodically through the years.
The file contains correspondence, memos, advertising, posters. photographs, programs, budgets and documents relating to the operation and promotion of the company.

First open meeting of the Board of Governors

File contains photographs and a poster from the the first open meeting of the Board of Governors of Ryerson Polytechnical Institute was held in the Theatre Auditorium at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, April 8, 1969.

George Orwell: The Crystal Spirit

The School of Performance is partnered with LOFT and faculty, staff and students from the program participated in the production of the annual christmas concert. LOFT (Leap of Faith Toronto) is a community service provider in Ontario that supports people facing a combination of mental and physical health challenges, addiction issues, poverty, and/or homelessness.

Nightwood Theatre - 4x4 an off-road event of women directors

Nightwood Theatre, Canada's national women's theatre, was founded in 1979. It creates, produces, and tours plays created by women. Each season they produce several productions in Toronto theatres and The Groundswell Festival - an annual festival of new works. Nightwood theatre also sponsors an Innovators program and "Write from the Hip" - an emerging playwrights program.

The file contains one copy of the program for "4x4 - an off-road event of women directors". The event, held in October and November of 2009 consisted of workshops, master classes, events and 4 plays. One of the plays "Serious Money" ran November 20-22, 2009 at the Theatre Passe Muraille and starred the graduation class of the Ryerson Theatre School.

Series contains materials related to productions and events held outside of the the Ryerson Theatre/School of Performance but had students, faculty, and staff from the school involved in events/productions in a variety of ways. Included in the series are:

Item is a handheld view master manufactured by Sawyer's Inc and first introduced at the New York World Fair (1939-1940). Item is made of plastic and metal. Reel of 7 diametrical, 16 mm colour transparencies of famous landmarks in British Columbia, Canada. The lever on the side of the viewer will rotate the reel one frame at a time once pressed. Reels are interchangeable and come with a variety of themes.
