This file contains a black and white kinescope copy of the colour television program produced by ABC titled A Time for Laughter. CBC aired this program during Show of the Week on March 13, 1967.

Program summary:
One in this series of entertainment specials presented under the umbrella of "ABC Stage 67." This program is devoted to black humor. Sidney Poitier opens the program with a short history of black humor with a look at minstrel shows, blackface comedy, black vaudeville and "signifying" (black humor's comment on life). Richard Pryor performs, and integration is examined, as seen by the black humorist. Skits include Redd Foxx, Dick Gregory, Diahann Carroll, Godfrey Cambridge, Diana Sands, Harry Belafonte, George Kirby, Pigmeat Markham, Jackie "Moms" Mabley. Includes commercials.

Musical television special about Harry Belafonte performing live at the O'Keefe Center in Toronto. Featuring Greek Singer Nana Mouskouri, Folk-blue artist Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee, The Belafonte singers and guitarist George Petsilas.

Filmed in the spring of 1965, and aired the week of November 13th 1965.

Hour-long television special aired on CBC March 12 1967. Originally in colour, Directed by Paddy Sampson.

“Songs, stills and films recall The Depression. Host Patrick Watson’s youthful recollections are contrasted with films and stills of bread lines, Prohibition in the U.S, civil leaders exhorting the public not to loose faith, and the rise of Nazism and fascism in Europe.

The singers are Billy Van, Les Leigh, Jack Northmore, Patty Van, Kathy Collier, Bonnie Brooks and Norma Locke.

Festival: The Duke

Musical television special about Duke Ellington as part of the Festival television series. Shot in a Toronto studio, the show also features members of Ellington’s orchestra, singer Joya Sherrill and the dancer Bunny Briggs. The program is produced and directed by Paddy Sampson.

The four film reels are divided into Reel 1 and Reel 2 and each Reel has Print #1 and Print #2.
