Nurses' week

File contains photographs related to Nurses' Week and Wellesley Hospital. The majority of the photographs relate to Nurses' Week 1984 held May 1 - 7. There is a photograph of an informational display about nurses and 3 photographs of drawings submitted to the poster contest sponsored by the Ontario Nurses Association for children of Wellesley staff. The photographs of the contest winners were published in the July 1984 edition of Lion's Tale staff newsletter.
The other two photographs are of a drawing from the 1985 Nurses' Week poster contest; and a photograph of a Nurse modelling in the fashion show that was part of the 1986 Nurses' Week events (Published in the August 1986 edition of Lion's Tale).

The Wellesley Hospital Medical and Research Centre events

The Wellesley Hospital Medical and Research Centre began construction in 1964, with the demolition of the original Hospital Building "Homewood". The cornerstone laying ceremony was held Wednesday May 19, 1965. The building was officially opened October 10, 1967.
File contains invitations and programs for the cornerstone laying ceremony and the official opening of the building.

File of correspondence between The Wellesley Hospital's Executive Director G. E. Thornton and Ontario's Minister of Health A. B. R. Lawrence, and between A. B. R. Lawrence and Donald MacIntyre, president of the Ontario Council of Administrators of Teaching Hospitals.

Bill 102 - An act respecting the Toronto General Hospital and The Wellesley Hospital

A photocopy of Bill 102 - an act respecting the Toronto General Hospital and The Wellesley Hospital. The act separated the two hospitals (which had amalgamated in 1948), leaving The Wellesley an independent institution once again. The first reading of the bill was March 11, the second March 21, and the final March 24.

File contains stationary and cards related to The Wellesley Hospital. Included are two greeting cards with images of The original Wellesley Hospital building on the front cover, one memorandum pad, and one document holder with "The Wellesley Hospital" on the front.

Dorothy Eden speeches, 1973

Cassette tape of Dorothy Eden reading two of her speeches given in 1973. The first is a speech given during a celebration of her career at The Wellesley on August 1, 1973. The second speech was originally given August 8, 1973 at the School's graduation exercises. It is unclear as to when the tape was recorded.

White and blue china soup bowl with attached plate and separate lid. Blue line and flower pattern around rim of plate, bowl and lid. The Wellesley Hospital coat of arms on one side of lid and bowl. Small handles on either side of bowl embellished with gold.

Ceramic tile from fireplace in wooden case

Green bordered ceramic tile that is sectioned into 4 quarters. Each smaller square has a different plant or flower on it - shamrock, thistle, rose, and a leaves. Tile is supposed to represent flora of the British Isles - shamrock = Irelend; Rose = England; thistle = Scotland; and the leaves.
Tiles were used around the fireplaces in the original hospital rooms in Wellesley's "Homewood" building. This tile was been placed in a finished wood box of sorts with green felt backing.

Becton Dickinson "Admiral" Portable Blood Samples Case

"Admiral" Nickel Silver Portable Blood Samples Case manufactured by Becton Dickinson Co. Metal case contains glass syringe, 2 needles, 5 glass vials with cork stoppers, and a tube for sharps attached to case. A red felt carrier with black stitching on edges and "BD" on snap closure was with case.

Brick and block trowel

Wood handled brick and block cement trowel. Trowel used by Ontario Premier John Robarts during the 1965 cornerstone laying for what would be named "The Turner Wing" of The Wellesley Hospital. The Turner wing opened in 1967.

Elisabeth Flaws

Portrait of Elisabeth Grace Flaws. She was the superintendent of Nurses at The Wellesley Hospital between 1912 and 1926. The photograph has been painted over to look like a painting and is framed in a gold wood frame.

Nursing uniforms

File contains photographs of various examples of the Nursing uniforms used by Wellesley Nursing students during the course of the school's history. Also included are 2 uniform histories and other information about the uniforms and the photographs.

New nurses' residence

A new nurses' residence was built after The Wellesley amalgamated with Toronto General Hospital. The cornerstone was laid by Ontario Premier Leslie Frost during a ceremony held June 29, 1952. The building opened June 29, 1953. In 1971 the building, now being used as offices, was re-named the Elsie K. Jones building.
File contains photographs of the sod turning, cornerstone laying, and interior and exterior photographs of the residence.

Report of the Nursing Taskforce

File contains a copy of the Nursing Task Force's report on the integration of the Hospital for Sick Children's, Women's College Hospital's, and Wellesley Hospital's Schools of Nursing into the existing Ryerson Nursing diploma program. Also included in the file is a copy of a letter to George Korey, acting chair of the Nursing Task Force at Ryerson, from G. E. Thornton, Executive Director of the Board of Wellesley Hospital.

Wellesley School of Nursing submission

File contains a copy of the Wellesley School of Nursing's submission to the Ontario College of Nurses to create a 2 year program in nursing. Up to that point the program offered by Wellesley was as 2 year program with a 3rd year of internship. They were applying to change the program to do away with the third year.
