Alumnae dinner, 1981

Photographs taken at the Royal York Hotel shows a woman leaning on table top podium speaking with another woman on the other side of the table. They are identified on the back as Lotta Dempsey, and a member of the class of 1929. Lotta Dempsey was a reporter for the Globe and Mail, and then The Toronto Star.

Hospital 60th Anniversary celebrations

File contains photographs taken at various events celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Wellesley Hospital held September 6th-8th. Events organized and run my the Alumnae included the garden party held on the hospital grounds, tours of the hospital and a dinner held at the Royal York. Several of the photographs have names written on back in pen.

Elsie K. (Jones) LaVenture

Roberts (Jeanette Simpson), class of 1915 graduate. Both women are holding 60th anniversary programmes. Photograph most likely taken at the Royal York Hotel at the dinner held to cap off the 60th Anniversary week of events.
Elsie K. Jones was Wellesley class of 1925 graduate and started working at the Wellesley in 1928. She held the role of Director of Nursing at Wellesley from 1937-1964. She married Cye A. LaVenture after her retirement. Elsie K. passed away October 4, 1972, less than a month after this photograph was taken.

File contains annual reports created by the past president, president, first vice-president, second vice-president, membership, secretary, and member at large for distribution to the Alumnae Association members. Reports are included for the following years: 1971-1972 (2); 1976-1976 (2); 1977-1978; 1979-1980; 1980-1981; 1985-1987.

Constitution and by-laws

File contains copies of the constitution and by-laws of the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association. Included are two copies from 1965, one from 1975, one from 1989 (pre-printed 1996), one working copy of the the 1989 (reprinted 1994, and one notice of motion dated February 1986 to amend by-laws, one copy of proposed amendments dated 1995, and two copies of undated constitution amendments.

25th anniversary - 1937

The 25th anniversary of the founding of The Wellesley Hospital and The Wellesley Hospital Alumnae Association's celebrations were held June 28 - July 2, 1937. Events included a luncheon at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, bridge and dance at the Royal York Hotel, a banquet at the King Edward Hotel, a reception at Government House hosted by Lieutenant-Governor Herbert Bruce (hospital founder), Class of 1937 graduation exercises, and a picnic and swimming at Dr. R. J. MacMillan's farm.
The file includes one souvenir booklet, two reunion banquet programmes, and an invitation to the reception hosted by Herbert and Angela Bruce at Government House. There is also a 16mm film of the Hospital's Anniversary activities.

50th anniversary - 1962

The 50th anniversary of the founding of The Wellesley Hospital and The Wellesley Hospital Alumnae Association's celebrations were held June 6 - 8, 1962. Events included a garden party at Casa Loma, the School of Nursing's graduation ceremony, tours of the hospital and residence, and dinner at the Royal York Hotel.
The file includes two souvenir booklets.

60th anniversary - 1972

The 60th anniversary of the founding of The Wellesley Hospital and The Wellesley Hospital Alumnae Association's celebrations were held September 6 - 8, 1972. Events included tours of the Hospital and a garden party on hospital grounds, class of 1972 graduation exercises, and dinner at the Royal York Hotel.
File contains 2 souvenir booklets, 1 programme from the Diamond Anniversary banquet, correspondence regarding the events, and a b&w transparency of Helen Carruthers' (class of 1916) article from the souvenir booklet.

75th anniversary - 1987

The 75th anniversary of the founding of The Wellesley Hospital was celebrated with various events held over the summer of 1987. On June 7 The Wellesley had a SUNday at Woodbine Racetrack, raising $70,000 for the hospital. On July 11, 800 members of The Wellesley Hospital staff and their families had a picnic at Earl Bales Park. On August 27 there was a 75th anniversary Garden Party on the hospital grounds with a 1912 theme - the year the hospital officially opened. A plaque honouring hospital founder Dr. Herbert Bruce was unveiled.
The file contains a 75th anniversary commemorative sticker, and a copy of the invitation sent to alumnae inviting them to the Garden Party.

Wellesley Hospital Alumnae Honour Roll

Hand drawn illuminated scroll in brown wooden frame. The Wellesley Alumnae Honour roll was created the Alumnae Association and possibly hung in the Hospital.
The top of the scroll is the Canadian Coat of Arms surrounded by shields depicting individual elements of the Coat of Arms. Under this is written "For King and Country members of Wellesley Hospital Alumnae who have volunteered for active service with Canada's Fighting Forces". The names and affiliations of all the graduates who enlisted for service in World War II are listed.

Application guidelines

File part contains pages of guidelines, from different years, outlining the sources of funding available to members of the Wellesley Alumnae Association. The guidelines were sent out by the Vice President Patient Services for the Hospital V. Sinnott and the secretary of the Alumnae Association.

For 1986 there were three scholarships:

The Elisabeth Flaws Memorial Scholarship - available to active members of the Alumnae Association and are taking post graduate studies in nursing at the degree level. The scholarship was for $2000.

The Elsie K. Jones LaVenture Memorial Fund - is available to registered nurses that have been on staff at The Wellesley Hospital for a minimum of one year. Applicants must take a short term course in graduate studies. There is a one year service commitment to Wellesley after the course is completed.

The Mrs. Herbert A. Bruce Memorial Scholarship - available to current members of the Association and to registered nurses on staff at The Wellesley for a minimum of one year. Applicants must take a conference, seminar, workshop, or refresher course. Scholarship for $200.

For 1987, all the same scholarships were available along with one more:

The President's bursary - available to all current members of the Alumnae Association who are graduates of the School of Nursing. Applicants must take a short term course in graduate studies.

The Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association 100th Anniversary commemorative framing

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Wellelsey Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association (1915-2015), the alumnae created a commemorative framed piece. Included in the frame is a photograph of the first graduating class from Wellesley in 1915; a graduation ring donated by Mary Stanton Sheen, class of 1931; and a year and graduation pin from current Alumnae Association president Shirley Hollefriend Heard, class of 1962. Included with the framed item is a information sheet with information about the portrait, pins, and ring.

The Wellesley Hospital...for your information

"For your Information" booklet given out by the Wellesley Hospital to incoming patients. Topics include what to expect when you arrive, while you are in the hospital and when you leave. There is also a section on who you might see while staying in the hospital and how to identify them by uniform, a history of the hospital, a comments card and pages for notes.

Christmas Carols by the Choir of the Wellesley School of Nursing

Cream coloured cardstock cover with green writing "Christmas Carols by the Choir of The Wellesley School of Nursing December 19, 1968". In the centre of the front cover is an illustration in red of nursing students singing and playing instruments. Inside the booklet are the words to the carols - O Little Town of Bethlehem, O Come All ye Faithful, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, and Silent Night, and a programme of events.

Wellesley World magazine

File contains copies of the Wellesley World magazine created the the Wellesley Hospital with news and stories about the Hospital, its, staff, and its auxiliary. Also included in the magazine was a page called "The Lion's Roar" which featured news and information from the Wellesley School of Nursing Alumnae Association. The magazine was published four times yearly.

Florence Nightingale letter to Louise Darche

Letter written to Louise Darche from Florence Nightingale. Louise Darche was the superintendent of The New York City Training School for Nurses from 1888-1898. The two met when Miss Darche travelled to London in 1893. In the letter Florence Nightingale references Henry Bonham Carter, her first cousin and Secretary of the Nightingale Fund. The photograph (RG 946.02.02.02) was also referenced in the letter and was sent by Mr. Bonham Carter to Miss Darche.

Included in the series are 2 copies of the book written by Hospital founder Dr. Herbert Bruce, 2 copies of the Wellesley Hospital history book written by Joan Hollobon, and numerous magazines and newsletters written by Wellesley Hospital for the staff and the general public.
