Photographs are travel snapshots from a cruise aboard the S.S. Vigilancia, a steamship that traveled from New York to Vera Cruz, Mexico. There are photographs of the popular sites and activities in Cuba, Bahamas and Mexico, including bullfighting, shoe shining, street scenes, cattle ranches, restaurants, mahogany, rubber, cocoa and banana trees, canoeing, vendors, Pico de Orizaba, markets. cathedrals, monuments, etc.
Other notable photographs are of the interior of The Grand Hotel, Wreck of the USS Maine at Havana, Monument to Cubans executed by the Spanish at Fort Cabana, ox-carts, and horse-drawn trams. Photographs taken at The Sequential Great Bull Fight, Havana. Vera City Mexico, Frontera Tobasco Mexico, Monte Cristo, Balancan, San Carlos, Santa Margarita, Vega Canal, Calle de Mayo and Mexico City.

Other materials include a postcard of Robbins Drug Store in New Brunswick, five telegrams from Allan Jackson, four newspaper articles about wireless operators, three articles about women entering the Royal Canadian Air Force, a booklet from Westminster Abbey entitled "Westminster Memories," and eleven small souvenir picture cards featuring different interiors, a brochure called "What's on and Where to Go in Glasgow," a pamphlet about the Castle of Edinburgh, a letter from Allan Jackson to his wife Mrs. G.A. Jackson in Montreal, a map of London, a London Underground map, two London transport day tickets, and several pamphlets from various sites in London.

Item consists of a dark blue album with the words "Scenes By the Way" written in white ink on the cover. Pages are grey with cutouts to slide in and hold photographs. Photographs consist of cartes de visite, cabinet cards and tintypes and are either loose or glued onto the pages. Some have captions written in fading white ink.
Photographs were taken at studios in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; New Westminster, British Columbia; Summerside, Prince Edward Island; Ottawa, Ontario; and Chicago, Illinois, and all consist of single-figure portraits.

Item consists of a gold edged card with a light pink base, and text in gold letterpress at the bottom edge, "A.I. Witter, Pecatonica, Ill." A long, narrow photograph gives a full length portrait of a man in a 3 piece suit all done in the same white flecked wool fabric. The coat is a little overlarge, probably a late 1860s style, and is buttoned at the top button only. He wears a striped ascot, and leans against a chair in front of a painted studio backdrop depicting a window and mantel. On the verso, a long text handwritten in pencil that indicates the sender (probably the man pictured in the card) could not come for New Year's as he had other obligations with a family called the Bowlys(?). He signs his initials "A.H." At the top left, in a different hand, "805/ 12.-".

The girl on the right holds a doll in her hand with elaborate hat and lace vest. The older boy wears a plain double breasted suit and cropped trousers, and the younger wears a sailor-style fashion. They stand in front of an abstracted studio backdrop. On verso, handwritten in pencil, "16 Washington St.".

The review included glee club performances, theatrical acts and minstrel shows. The minstrel performances included several white performers in blackface.

Minstrel shows are a style of variety show, most popular during the late 19th and early 20th century, in which white performers use make-up and costumes to depict racist and stereotypical caricatures of Black people. The genre originated in the United States, but Canada had its own troupes and touring companies, and the format was popular with schools, community groups, and religious organizations.

On the verso of one photograph is partially written "Dear Gertrude,-This is a picture...of our new home...Mildr(ed?)" A truck is shown painted with "...S TAXI CABS, 2400 CHATHAM." A boat is shown painted with "The 100 Mile Cruiser To NATURAL PARK, SAGAMO." A park entrance gate made of tree branches spells out "CAMP TINAWATAWA, YWCA, YMCA." On a page entitled "Camp 1921" the prints have been typed on "Lake Couchiching." One loose print is written on verso "May 1963."

Item consists of a brown album with gold embossing and darker brown detailing. Item has part of a metal clasp on right of cover. Pages are white with gold embossing and sleeves with cutouts to insert the photographs into. Spine is torn and in very poor condition.

They are all portraits, some are labeled in pencil or black ink on the back of or below the photograph with the subject's name and sometimes a date. The photographs were taken accross Canada in Charlottetown, Montreal, Halifax, Pictou, Ottawa, and others as well as Boston, Washington D.C., New York and Auckland New Zealand. Some of the studios that made the photographs in this album are the Notman Studio, Brady's National Portrait Galleries, James Inglis, and J.W. Black. Photographers include C.S. Lewis and Tanton.
