Theatrical Space from the Stone Age to the Space Age

File contains 2 copies of the paper "Theatrical Space from the Stone Age to the Space Age" that was presented at the International Conference of Theatre and Television September 1 - 7 Hilversum, The Netherlands. The conference was sponsered by the International Federation for Theatre Research in co-operation with NOS Dutch Broadcasting Corporation. Included with the paper are a CD and slides of photographs referenced in the paper. The paper was later published in the conference proceedings.
Also in the file is correspondence, photographs, souvenir postcards, conference program, and other materials related to the Hilversum conference.

Patriotic Entertainments and National Identity in Toronto in the Boer War and World War I

File contains three copies of the paper "Patriotic Entertainments and National Identity in Toronto in the Boer War and World War I" presented at the International Symposium on Popular Entertainment as a reflection of national identity. The Conference was held in New York City October 8-12, 1987. The conference was presented by the American Society for Theatre Research, the Society of Dance History Scholars, and the Theatre Library Association in co-operation with the International Federation for Theatre Research. Also in the file is correspondence, registration information, acceptance letter, publication information, a schedule of events, participant list, and conference proceeedings.

Towards an Interactive Performance Calendar Database

File contains one copy of the paper "Towards and Interactive Performance Calendar Database". This paper is based on Robert Scott's Ph.D thesis that developed a daily theatrical calendar of performances by professional theatre companies in 28 Ontario town and citites between 1914-1967. The paper was presented at the 12th annual World Congress of the International Federation for Theatre Research: New Directions in Theatre Research. The conference was held in Stockholm, Sweden May 29-June 4, 1989.
Also in the file is a copy of the conference proceedings, a history guide for Storkyrkan St. Nicholas' Stockholm Cathedral, and an application for the International Federation for Theatre Research.

Contained in a University of Colorado paper folder is an abstract and attached paper "The Saint John Project: The National Film Board of Canada's "Challenge for Change" Program Revisited" by Robert Scott. The paper was presented at the McBride Round Table in Communication conference - Global Media and Global Responsibility: A Time to Choose. The round table was held at the University of Colourado, Boulder October 1-2, 1997. Also in folder are conference details, a list of other places Robert Scott presented about the Saint John project, and background articles about the project.

File contains a copy of "The Body Electric: Notions of Self and Identity in the Age of Virtual Reality" presented by Robert Scott at "Confronting Technopoly" - the 15th annual convention of the Media Ecology Association. The convention was held June 19-22, 2014 Ryerson University. Also in the file are the conference proceedings, and correspondence.

Education in the Information Age

File contains 2 copies of the keynote address delivered by Robert Scott to The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers at the 14th International Television Conference. The Conference was held in Toronto on February 1, 1980. Also in the file is thank you letter from the President of the Society for his participation.

Program for North American Mobility in Higher Education

The Program for North American Mobility in Higher Education was a co-operative partnership between the Canadian, American, and Mexican government by supporting the development of international joint projects between universities, colleges, and technical institutions. The program, started in 1995, was offered through the Learning and Literacy Directorate of Human Resources Development Canada.
File contains a letter and a booklet of guidelines and application procedures for applicants to the program.

Media and Communication course brochure

Three brochures for the Photographic Arts Media and Communication course (PTM023-033-043) offered from July 5-July 24 1982(?) at Ryerson's Blue Mountain Lodge. The course counted as a credit towards the students Photographic Arts degree. Robert Scott designed, organized and helped teach the three week course.

Envelope 15 contains 2 dvd and textual records relating to the "McLuhan's Media" installation presented in the George Vari Engineering Building July 22 and 23, 2011. Included is preliminary research, several versions of possible media to be used, the final selection of media, a listing of contributing artists. The first dvd is Mark Polscher's "Die Mechanische Brout" and "Science and Society: McLuhan on The Club"; and the second dvd is of Christina (Jana) Kluge's multimedia exhibition "Homage to Marshall McLuhan". Polscher's work was played during the exhibit. Kluge's work was received later.

Envelope 15.2

File contains copy of the libretto "McLuhan: The Musical" written by Frank Moher, with music and lyrics by Gerald Reid. It was premiered by the Great Canadian Opera Company in Ottawa in October of 1994. It was also used in the McLuhan media installation in 2011 in the George Vari Centre.

International University Partnership program for the Study and Utilization of Information and Communication Systems for Development

File contains information on Ryerson International's proposal for the study and utilization of information and communication systems (ICS). The proposal was sent to the University Partnership in Cooperation and Development (a joint Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the Association of Universities and Colleges in Canada (AUCC) program).
The proposal, sent from Ryerson International, was a joint proposal including 10 universities in Canada, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. They were: Ryerson Polytechnic University, Universite de Quebec a Montreal, York University, Concordia University, Simon Fraser University, University of West Indies, Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Universidade de Sao Paolo, Universidad del Salvador, and Universidade Javerenia.
Included in the file are correspondence and copies of the proposal.

Calendar of religious observances

This file contains 4 calendars (1993, 1994, 1996, 1997), produced by the Office of Employment and Educational Equity for distribution to the Ryerson academic community. The objective was to inform the teaching faculty of religious observances that could have an impact on their students' schedule.

Go For It! resource kit

Go Fot it! is a video and resource kit developed to promote the idea of post-secondary education to 9-14 year olds. The project targeted children from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the post-secondary population. It was created by the Office of Employment and Educational Equity Office. Resources are in 3 languages - English, French, and Oji-Cree.

The resource kit include 5 booklets: Student handout 1, Student Handout 2, Student handout 3, about this project, and Discussion Guide. There is also a resource list with contact information for a variety of services.

The accompanying 20 minute videos feature celebrities Kashtin, Julie Masse and the Dream Warriors, singing, rapping and in discussion with children. The video also features interviews with people across Ontario talking about and demonstrating their different careers and the opportunities available to every one.

Telidon Public Initiatives program

File contains information collected by Donald Gillies regarding the Telidon Public Initiatives program. Telidon sent out a press release and correspondence to Ryerson regarding submitting a proposal for programming for the disadvantaged. Ryerson's Department of Communication's Working Group on New Communications Technologies submitted a proposal.
Included in the file are copies of the news release, correspondence, and a copy of the proposal.

Departmental Appointments Committee

File contains materials related to the Image Arts Departmental Appointments Committee. Included is correspondence regarding tenure status, blank job review forms and criteria listings, and various schedules for faculty/instructor review.

Academic Council meetings

File contains meeting agenda and appendices for the Academic Council meeting held May 22, 1968 - May 28, 1969. Included are some other memos and accompanying materials related to the meetings. There are several pages relating to course weight alterations and course name changes from 1980. File divided into 3 folders.

Ed's Black Hole Catalog

File contains copy of #1 edition of the Black Hole catalog (unsure if others were published). Ed Ackerman, the publisher and contributor, attended Ryerson for 1 year in the Film program.

File contains materials relating to the three day media festival held by the Photographic Arts Department. Included is a schedule of events, event map, list of nearby restaurants, permits, permit applications, and Chum-fm public service announcement about one of the events.

Photographic Arts/Film and Photography/School of Image Arts curriculum committee

File contains materials related to the Curriculum Committee for Photographic Arts/Film and Photography/School of Image Arts. Included is one letter dated May 2, 1969; a 1994 report from the Curriculum committee submitted to the Academic Standards Committee about proposed changes to Film and Photography curriculum; and 1998-1999 correspondence regarding potential changes to curriculum.

Image Arts survey and focus groups

File contains correspondence, sample surveys, and information on student focus groups. Survey and focus groups directed at students regarding Image Arts generally and regarding the curriculum.

Communication and informatics Applied Research Centre

File contains a copy of the letter and attached proposal sent to the Honourable Larry Grossman, Minister of Industry and Tourism. The proposal was for the establishment of a centre, to be administered by Ryerson, to develop, implement, and co-ordinate industry based applied research in communications, computing and informatics.

ETV - 1967

File contains records created in 1967 relating to ETV, and ETV at Ryerson. Included in the file is the brief to the Commons Committee on Broadcasting "Criteria for the Establishment of Educational Mass Media on a Democratic Society" by Howard R. J. Mountain; a brief to the Parliamentary Committee on Broadcasting by the Canadian Association for Adult Education; an address given by an unidentified person "Provincial Educational Television - the role of the Department of Education" given at Ryerson; a brief about the University of Waterloo television system from their audio-visual centre; and correspondence regarding the Ryerson President's Committee on Educational Television.

ETV - 1970

File contains correspondence related to the Media Centre's Instructional Media Office and a copy of the final report of the President's Committee on Educational Television "Planning for Educational Television at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute" dated April 28, 1970.

Office of the Registrar

File contains records relating to the office of the Registrar. Included is student registration information, a cross reference list of old and new course numbers and titles, an exam supervision schedule, registrar's office newsletter, section reports, student grades and lists of important dates.

Faculty/Staff memorandas

File contains all staff, faculty and community memoranda of varying topics. The majority of the memos were sent 1964-1965 by by W. B. S. Trimble, VP Faculty Affairs. There is one memo from 1969, and one from 1980.

Glass mugs

File contains 2 glass mugs. One has Ryerson Polytechnical Institute with crest on it in blue and gold. The other has "Novemberfest" Ryerson proof of age required in red lettering on it.
