Eastern section, Gardiner Expressway, concept drawings

Illustrations showing an idealized reconstruction of the section of the Gardiner Expressway and Lakeshore Boulevard, crossing the Don Valley Parkway and extending to the waterfront. Drawings include mixed-use infills under the Gardiner (with the existing Lakeshore roadway relocated south toward the water), and the creation of a Garden Boulevard to the east with commercial uses on either side. Ponds, lakes and fountains are inserted along the shoreline. The designs were commissioned as part of an OAA Charrette, and the images were published in the July 1987 issue of Canadian Architect magazine.

This folder contains photographic prints of people associated with and featured in Canadian Architect Magazine between 1971 and 1982. Architects in this series include Richard Meier, British architect James Stirling, and Dr. Anne Schrecker, Chairman of the Architectural Science & Landscape Architecture Department at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1981. This folder also contains numerous photographs related to the judging of Canadian Architect Magazine contest submissions. Many photographs do not contain dates or inscriptions.

Ryerson Institute of Technology Kerr Hall

Brass sign that was mounted outside on the building. Kerr Hall officially opened on November 21, 1960. It was re-named Oakham House after Howard Kerr Hall officially opened in 1964.

Marble clock

File contains the marble clock that was removed from a lounge in Oakham House, probably during renovations in the 1970s. Photographic evidence of its hanging location exists in the archives.

Invoice: From David Smith To Mrs. William Thomas

This document appears to be an invoice and is dated August 2, 1849. It is from David Smith, "Silk and Woollen Dyer, Scourer, Hot Presser & C." to Mrs. William Thomas, wife of the noted architect who designed Oakham House. Smith's address on the invoice is 62 King Street West, "opposite the Baths". This document was retrieved from the Oakham House documentation file; there is no official accession. A photographic copy print was left in the file. Some restoration work, i.e. repair of tears, was performed. The document, however, remains fragile.

Wallet

This file contains a wallet, that belonged to a resident of the Working Boys Home (now Oakham House). It was found during renovation.

William Thomas and Oakham house

A scrapbook "William Thomas of Oakham House" containing news clippings, photographs, correspondence and committee records pertaining to Oakham House and the architect and original owner, William Thomas. This information was gathered and arranged by the donor, Ted Brock, the Senior Don of O'Keefe House. The documents have been removed and placed in an acid-free file folder.

Included with Ryerson's brief to the Advisory Panel on Future Directions for Ontario's Postsecondary Education, is the government's discussion paper and the Advisory Panel's final report entitled, "Excellence, Accessibility, Responsibility - Summary and Recommendations", and issued in December, 1996.

The President's Newsletter, issued bi-annually, Spring and Fall, discussed updates and noteworthly events related to the school and faculty in a hardcopy format. It was discontinued as of October 19th, 2009 and replaced with the wholly digital, Ryerson Today.

RU Ryerson student video contest

RU Ryerson inaugural video contest occured in 2009. The idea behind the contest was initiated by President Sheldon Levy after he saw a similar contest at Waterloo University. The contest was student run with support from the President's office - donating the prize money for the top three videos.

This file consists of textual records and DVD from the 2009 and 2010 iteration of the RU Ryerson contest.
