Alumni directory, 1998-1999

Three copies of the 1998 / 1999 Alumni Directory (one soft-cover, two hard-cover). One hard-cover copy is engraved with gold lettering : "The Ryerson Archives". The directory includes alumni up to and including the graduates of 1997. The information is also stored on disk.

Invest in Futures video tapes

This file contains 11 video tapes in formats including Digital Betacam, Betacam SP, CD-ROM, VHS, and DVCPRO, that provide information on the Invest in Futures campaign.

Alumni Expo (Graduate Fair)

The first Graduate Fair was held in the upper floor of the Hub cafeteria on March 4, 2009 for graduands going to graduate in 2009. The purpose was to enhance services to new graduates and improvement relations between the university and grads. The first fair was entitled, "Grads of '09 What are you doing after school?". In 2011 the name was changed to Alumni Expo.

Videos

File contains 1 vhs copy of the November 25, 1998 Ryerson Alumni awards ceremony, and 3 promotional tapes of nominated alumni for the 2000 awards. Two of those tapes are for Joeffer Caoc, Fashion '93 and one was for Robert J. Sawyer, RTA '82.

Installation of President Claude Lajeunesse

File contains installation invitations, programs, program/calendar of events, curriculum vitae, press kit, RSVP list, name badges, cassette recordings (Installation of Pres. Lajeunesse CA 12-9 and "New Initiatives Forum", CA 12-11/12, received through various sources.

Ryerson chair - drawings and photographs

Drawings and digital (cd) images of Ryerson's official "Chair". The cd documents the various stages of the production of the chair, designed by Interior Design student Agata Jaworski. This chair was the winner in a competition among Ryerson's Interior Design students. The chair serves as a gift to major benefactors to the University. An image (chair and designer) has been printed from the cd and placed inside the file folder.

Toronto Normal School class of 1924 60th Annivesary reunion

File contains two photographs taken by Chris Bell of the 60th anniversary reunion of the Toronto Normal School's graduating class of 1924. One photograph is a group photo of the 60 + attendees at the reunion and one is of the reunion organizers - Perry Malcolm and Dr. Archie Ritter. The reunion attendees had luncheon in Jorgenson Hall, were given a campus tour, and had a presentation by former Archivist Jim Peters.
The photograph of the two reunion organizers was published in the June 1, 1984 edition of the FORUM newsletter.

Retail Management

File contains photographs of School of Retail Management faculty and staff. Photographs included one of Interim Chair Donna Smith and departmental assistant Mary Vasile (photograph published in the March 9, 1998 FORUM); Donna Smith and Mary Vasile with a group of senior volunteers; and two groups photographs of 2 women and 3 men standing in front of an old fashioned cash register. One of the women is Donna Smith, and one of the men is Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse.

The file consists of membership cards : two blank (no alumni member name) and two with textual information. These cards were the first "plastic" cards to be issued between March 2007 to June 2013.

Alumni Relations

Wine bottles

Food Services catered a literary event for Tish Cohen Ryerson alumnus held in the Library on 10 April 2008 with the reception having taken place in the Archives. The two empty wine bottles were donated to the Archives at the end of the event by Food Services. The wine was produced by Strewn Inc., Niagara-On-The-Lake for Ryerson Alumni Relations, University Advancement.

Photographic assignments

Series contains images taken by University Advancement photographers. They cover a wide range of subjects including campus events, staff and faculty portraits, donor receptions and building demolition and construction. A majority of the images were taken for the purpose of publication in the University Advancement publication "The Forum".

Malabar scholarship presentation and Malabar Costume Company

File contains photographs taken at the presentation of the inaugural Harry and Jean Malabar Costume Awards. Open to students in the 3rd and 4th year of costume design in the Theatre School, third year students Jean Louie and Elyssa Caron were the first winners and were presented their awards by Harry Malabar. Endowment fund created by friends and family of Harry and Jean in honour of Harry's 100th birthday. . Pictures also include shots taken in the Malaber Costume Company, founded by Harry Malabar in 1923. Photographs featured in the April 2000 edition of the FORUM publication.

Universal Studios lab ribbon cutting

File contains photographs taken at the ribbon cutting for the new Universal Studios Canada instructional demonstration facility in the Image Arts building. One photograph, featuring Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse, Image Arts chair Brian Damude, Senior VP NBC Universal Canada Ron Suter, and President and CEO GE Canada Elyse Allan, was published in the May/June 2005 edition of the FORUM.

Memorial Service: Stan Heath: Videocassette, Slides

A DVCPRO master cassette and a VHS cassette of the memorial service for Stan Heath, Dean/Faculty of Business, who died suddenly on Septebmer 7, 1999. A collection of slides presenting a brief insight into the life of Stan Heath were shown at the memorial service.

A list of honorary doctoral degrees was presented to the following recipients for the 1997 convocation, the list included Linda Lundstrom (Doctor of Laws), Jacques Hebert (Docator of Laws), Judd Buchanan (Doctor of Laws), Sam Sniderman (Doctor of Commerce), Marian Packham (Doctor of Science), Peter Laughton (Doctor of Engineering), Murray Enkin (Doctor of Laws), Anne Golden(Doctor of Laws)

Various CDs related to the Office of University Advancement

File contains various CDs related to the Office of University Advancement. Included are CDs containing photographs from the 2010 Gould Street Park Festival and photographs from the 2008 Press conference on the Government of Ontario investing in the Student Learning Centre. There is also a CD of the television coverage of when Peter Gilgan visited the athletic centre at the Gardens in 2011.

Ceremony records

The Alumni Achievement Awards program was inaugurated in 1998 on Ryerson Polytechnic University's 50th Anniversary. There were initially two categories - Alumni Award of Distinction and Outstanding Recent graduate. The Alumni Award of Distinction is given for professional achievement. The Outstanding Recent Graduate Award is given an alumnus who brought honour to Ryerson withing 10 years of graduation. The winners are gifted with a medal created with funding from the Board of Directors of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts in honour of Mr. Sharpe's induction into the Business Hall of Fame in 1998. The award was re-named for Mr. Sharpe in 2002. In 2008 the Outstanding Alumni Volunteer Award was introduced, recognizing alumni who have provided outstanding volunteer assistance to the University. In 2013 the Outstanding International Alumni Award was introduced, recognizing the alumnus that has demonstrated exceptional accomplishment in their chosen profession, exceptional service in community affairs, and has contributed to the advancement of Ryerson University.

Mr. Santiago Calatrava

File contains photographs of architect Mr. Santiago Calatrava. Mr. Calatrava proposed a design for the new Centre for Computing and Engineering. This project was never realized.
