The Wolfman Jack Show [television series]

The U.S. disk jockey Wolfman Jack came to the greater public's attention in the 1973 film American Graffiti and as the announcer for the television rock concert series, The Midnight Special. His Howl Productions co-produced The Wolfman Jack Show with the CBC in Vancouver. The producers booked foreign performers as well as Canadian musical artists, such as the Stampeders and Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and was intended to give Canadian artists an avenue into an international market. The program also featured regular performances by the Famous People Players, and comedy with Danny Wells, Peter Cullen, and Sally Sales.

Lena Horne : The Lady and Her Music television production

File contains one television script - Lena Horne : The Lady and Her Music Routine (June 1982, RKO Pictures, 90 mins. ) by Executive producer Robert Many and Producer Bill Siegler, two RKO Pictures' promotional posters and one "Lena Horne: The Highlights" biography proposal compiled by Diane M. Giola. The success of Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music, which opened at the Netherlander Theater on Broadway on May 12, 1981, and ran 333 performances, until June 30, 1982 (Horne's 65th birthday). Later that same week, the entire show was performed again and videotaped for television broadcast and home video release. The Lady and Her Music toured 41 cities in the U.S. and Canada through June 17, 1984. Lena Horne (1917 - 2010) was an African-American singer, actress, civil rights activist and dancer.

Correspondence regarding The Terezin Requiem

File contains mimeograph copies taken from Josef Bor's The Terezin Requiem (1963) pages 1-112 (x2) and additional copies of some pages. File also contains an envelope addressed to Montreal writer, Mordecai Richler, with a note from Paddy. The note asks Mordecai to call Paddy "Collect" at the CBC regarding a TV drama. Enclosed in the envelope is a 3-page typed storyline (including edits and annotations in blue pen) highlighting one of the scenes from The Terezin Requiem. Additionally, there is a small sheet of white paper which reads, "People to talk to suggested by Mr. Banik of Banik-Slocakotour Travel Agency." Included on this list are: Mr. Verny (He's Jewish and a former lawyer), Mr. Zlamal (has 3-4 books on the market), Mr. Brodsky (written book) or Nase Hlasy-Our or Radio Stn. CHIN and Mr. Novotney (will call back after holiday). List also includes corresponding addresses and phone numbers.

The concept of the show is "the world is now a goldfish bowl" in which the world has become smaller than it once was. File contains six transcribed segments of the Harry Belafonte television interview (1: 1-63, 2: 1-63, 3: 1-33, 4: 1-23, 5: 1-46 and 6: 1-40). Harry Belafonte is a Jamaican - American singer, actor and activist. The transcription includes directions and off-camera dialogue with director, camera man and producer, Paddy Sampson. Also included in the file is a copy of the Globe and Mail newspaper dated may 2nd, 1970. There is only one article about , Cleavon Little, Star of a Broadway musical and tony-award winner. The subject of the article could relate further to the Belafonte transcripts. The title of the article is " This year Hollywood isn't interested in the man who won the Tony" and Little is quoted as saying, "I'm trying to say I have not received a good offer to do a movie because I happen to be black."

Sky Dome Opening celebrations

File contains the Sky Dome Opening Celebration program for the 1989 official opening published by Stadcorp. The document provides an overview of CBC Television special, The Opening of Sky Dome: A Celebration, produced by Paddy Sampson. The celebrations included several special guest stars such as, Alan Thicke, Oscar Peterson, Theresa Pitt, Liberty Silver, Tommy Ambrose, Glass Tiger, David Clayton Thomas, Andre-Phillipe Gagnon and Andrea Martin. Guests also included Ontario Premier, David Peterson. The document also includes a history of Toronto's Waterfront, a feature on the Sky Dome start to finish including planning, architect, construction, winner who named the building and a list of sporting events. Also included is a feature on Canadian artist, Michael Snow, who designed "The Audience" sculpture situated on the balcony above the entrance to the Sky Dome. The Sky Dome is home of the Toronto Blue Jays of Major baseball League and Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. It is located downtown Toronto situated to the CN Tower. In 2005 the Sky Dome and the Toronto Blue Jays were bought by Rogers Communications and the building was renamed the Rogers Centre. Sampson was the president of That's Show business Inc.

1988 Calgary Winter Olympics news Clippings

File contains news clippings about the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. Publications include, Toronto Star, The New York Times, The Calgary Herald, Newsweek, and The Globe and Mail. Many of the reviews were positive although some criticized CTV as being less organized than ABC, both official Olympic broadcasting channels. Paddy Sampson was highly regarded for his work. He and his wide, Better Ladourette sold their Toronto home and moved to Calgary for thirty months so Paddy could oversee the Olympics project.

Tenth Annual Asian Games- Seoul, South Korea

File contains a document detailing the Asian Games opening Ceremony (x2) and four newspapers profiling the 10th Annual Asian Games held in Seoul, Korea. Like many of the television segment schedules used to direct the show the opening ceremony is divided into three segments. Additionally, there is an explanation of performances. Newspaper titles include, Asian News (Friday, September 19th, 1986), The Korean Times (Sunday September 21st, 1986 x2 ) and The Korean Herald (Tuesday, September 23rd, 1986). The 10th Seoul Asian Games was then the biggest in Asia's 35-year history. The newspapers each feature the Ever Onward Olympic Council of Asia (since 1982) and SAGOC (Seoul Asian Games Organizing Committee) emblems both founded in 1982.

File contains the Vol. II of the Atlanta Official big for 1996 Olympic Games that was accepted in Tokyo, Japan on September 23rd, 1990. This publication is volume two of a five-set volume series to document "the spirit of Atlanta as it rose to the challenge of the quest for the games". The document was published in 1990 by the Atlanta Committee for the Olympics. On the Olympic vote chart featured on the last page of this document is shows that Toronto, Ontario came in third for the 1996 Summer Olympic bid.

File contains financial records for the 1988 Calgary Olympic games. The file was divided into 1986/1987, 1987/1988 fiscal records for opening and closing ceremonies. Many of the records are stamped as confidential. Many of the costs relate to cost to use McMahon, performers, props, the construction and operating costs for the flame, volunteer costs, etc.

XV Olympic Winter Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies

File contains two copies of the XV Olympic Winter Opening Ceremony (40 pages each) and two copies of the XV Olympic Winter Closing Ceremony (24 pages each). The Opening Ceremony publication highlights the behind the scenes as Calgary prepares for the Olympics, sews costume, music and choreography, and some highlights from the actual event. The Closing Ceremony publication covers the three Acts presented to show contemporary skating in Canada (Act I), skating in Canadian history (Act II) and modern spin on cowboy themed skating performance (Act III). There is also a final section on Canadian Olympic figure skaters (singles and pairs) who have won medals. All of the Publications are printed in French and English.

File contains the CTV Canada Calgary 1988 Host Broadcaster Unit staff outline (those with direct contact with venue personnel). The name Laderoute is legible on the cover- Bette Laderoute is the venue co-ordinator, daily press conferences Archie Boyce Pavilion. Laderoute will work with the producer Brian Vos to ensure that operations at this venue go smoothly.

Henry Koro Photographers -Prelude to Expo

File contain nine sheets of photograph proofs from Henry Koro Commercial Photographers taken of musician and performers amongst the construction site of Expo '67 (Montreal, Quebec). The photo-shoot was documented the performers from Prelude to Expo which was part of an Oct. 19, 1966 broadcast on Music Canada. The Montreal concert featured the Oscar Peterson Trio, Marcel Carignan, Jean-Pierre Ferland, Pauline Julien, Gordon Lightfoot, Aldor Morin and Miriam Makeba. Jimmy Dale conducted the orchestra. The broadcast also included Vincent Warren of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens with choreography by Suzanne Verdal. The Expo 67 site was seen in the background which was still under construction at that time.Music Canada was a Canadian music television mini-series which eight episodes on CBC Television from 1966-67. The series featured various special productions of music and dance, from classical to modern styles. Expo 67 was the most spectacular of Canada's 100th anniversary celebrations. When the Montreal Universal and International Exposition of 1967 opened on April 27, it was a gleaming futuristic spectacle and a dazzling international success. On two giant islands in the St. Lawrence River more than 50 million visitors were presented with a vision of the future.

Harry Belafonte Japan (Tokyo Broadcasting)

Textual records from Belafonte enterprises, Inc. listing Large Blue Video Tapes (Tape # and Description of contents) dated from 1966 - 1981. Paddy Sampson wrote and or directed the Belafonte television special in Japan. He and Belafonte were life long friends and worked together many times in which Sampson either wrote or directed televised projects.

The Blues

File contains photos from the CBC television special, The Blues. In 1966, CBC Television invited some of North America's greats blues performers to gather in a Toronto studio and record performances together and individually. The session lasted over three days and the results were originally televised as a 90-minute special of the CBC series, Festival. Festival aired from 1960-1970 and was CBC's home for performing arts programming. The Blues special became famous. It included the Muddy Waters Blues Band, Big Joe Williams, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Mabel Hillery, Sunnyland Slim, Willie Dixon and Jesse Fuller. Paddy Sampson produced the show and Barry Callaghan served as host.
