The collection consists of a large number of studio portrait photographs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries in carte-de-visite or cabinet card formats. There is a large collection of landscape and industrial imagery dating from the Victorian era to the 1960s. The collection also comprises many vernacular photographic albums, good examples of glass and metal photographic processes including cased daguerreotypes, ambrotypes and tintypes. The fonds is comprised of the following 8 series: Portraits (sub-series for Groups and Celebrities), Vernacular Photography (amateur snapshots), Landscapes and Industry (sub-series for Slides), Albums, the A.T. Orr collection and a Miscellaneous group of images which were generally created in mixed media.

Sweden album

Item consists of brown textured hardcover leather bound album with decorative flower detailing on cover. A metal coat of arms is attached to the centre of the cover and a metal latch is attached to keep the album closed. Leather has worn off the spine. The spine is in delicate condition and pages are coming loose. Pages are an off-white colour with decorative gold embossing. Photographs are slid in between two pieces of card with cutouts to view the images and hold them in place. Some photographs have a year and/or a name written on them in black ink.
Photographs are portraits taken primarily in Swedish photography studios, mostly in Gothenburg, although there is one that was taken in New York City. They are primarily single-subject portraits, but occassionally feature a small group. All have been posed for and taken in a studio.

Canada album

Item consists of a brown album with gold embossing and darker brown detailing. Item has part of a metal clasp on right of cover. Pages are white with gold embossing and sleeves with cutouts to insert the photographs into. Spine is torn and in very poor condition.
Photographs are all carte de visite size, and there are 5 tintypes in paper mats spread throughout the album. Some are hand-coloured. They are all portraits, some are labeled in pencil or black ink on the back of or below the photograph with the subject's name and sometimes a date. The photographs were taken accross Canada in Charlottetown, Montreal, Halifax, Pictou, Ottawa, and others as well as Boston, Washington D.C., New York and Auckland New Zealand. Some of the studios that made the photographs in this album are the Notman Studio, Brady's National Portrait Galleries, James Inglis, and J.W. Black. Photographers include C.S. Lewis and Tanton.

Loose materials include: photographs, tintypes in individual envelopes.

Canterbury cathedral and girl

Two pairs of photographs originally grouped together. Two photographs are of a girl seated on a miniature chaise longue in front of garden wall, and two photographs are of the interior of Canterbury Cathedral. The cathedral photographs have both been written on verso in pencil "Canterbury Cathedral," and individually in ink, "Presbytery and Archbishop Bourchier's Tomb" and "Effigy of the Black Prince from his Tomb."

Horse team

Photographic image is of a two-horse team standing on a dirt road with cart and driver in front of residential buildings. The card mount is taupe and dark gray.

Redbook reader

Photograph is of a woman sitting in front of a fireplace, with Redbook magazine open on her lap. The support for the image is a neon-red paper. On the lower right of the tan card mount is embossed the studio logo. On the verso is inscribed in green ink: "To Jessie, Wishing you many happy returns of the day. Violet. Jan. 1 1912."

Photographic print of three women is trimmed into a tiny circle and set into a button assembly. The unsmiling women are shown wearing white blouses and darker neck bows. The button is black metal, with a gold metal pin.
