History

Evelyn Margery Hinds was one of the first teachers in the North, taught the Gwich'in (Loucheux) at Fort MacPherson and the Inuit at Port Harrison and Cape Dorset and started schools in Sugluk, Arctic Bay and Wakeham Bay. She has lectured extensively and written six books on the North. She was made a member of the Order of Canada in 1980. Hings died on July 22, 1991.
