Biographical history

Alan V. Miller was a library technician at Ryerson Unversity Library and Archives until his retirement in 2013. Born in Cornwall, Ontario in 1948, Miller attended Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School before completing a Bachelor's degree in biology at Queen's University, Kingston. After working at a museum in Winnipeg for two years, Miller returned to school to complete his Master's Degree in geology at the University of Toronto. Following graduation, he worked at the Ontario Ministry of Labour for 18 years before joining Ryerson, where he worked as a cataloguer and with electronic resources. Miller has completed numerous bibliographic projects documenting queer history and experience in Canada and organized three gay history conferences from 1980 to 1985: "Whitman in Ontario" (1980), "Wilde, 1982" (1982), and "Sex and the State" (1985).
